We finally know why Mystique is so blue. It’s the Internet’s fault.

The new “X-Men: Apocalypse” trailer hit the Web on Thursday, showing new footage, more glimpses of Apocalypse in action and more Jennifer Lawrence. While news sites have generally praised the spot, fans’ early response on the Internet has been ... very mixed. Some are all about the trailer — for example, someone on Twitter said they watched it “5 times in a row” and a Redditor added, “WOW.” Others, not so much.

“There’s something really underwhelming about the two trailers they’ve released so far, I’m not sure what it is. maybe [sic] it looks a bit generic,” reads one of the top comments on the trailer on Reddit. Some YouTube users seem to be doing their best Immortan Joe impressions, calling it “mediocre.” Others lament that there’s too much JLaw. One of the top comments reads, “I’m not mad, just disappointed.”

Ouch. So what’s the reason for all the haters?

Redditor GoldenJoel might’ve nailed it saying, “It’s superhero fatigue.”

In 2016 alone, there are 8 Marvel and DC superhero movies scheduled to hit theaters. Of those, “Deadpool,” “Batman v Superman” and “Captain America: Civil War“ will all come out before “Apocalypse.” Superhero movies are great, but at some point perhaps our brains just can’t handle that much serotonin. Each major villain starts reminding us of the last one and every world-ending event starts to blend together. Like, “Did aliens invade New York last week, or was all that commotion from evil Spider-Man dancing down the street? I get the two confused.”

“Never mind, it was definitely from Spider-Man.”

The “Apocalypse” trailer is actually pretty sick, though. Psylocke is slicing cars, there are slow-motion explosions, Quicksilver is all over the place and Katniss Everdeen Mystique is all like, “Let’s go to war.”

Awesome. It’s all awesome. It’s just right now there may be a little too much awesome for everyone to handle.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is coming to theaters May 27.
