What defines rare in vehicle production? 500? 100, maybe? What about 17? That’s how many of these indescribably hard to find Porsche 924 Carrera GTRs were built. Lucky for you, one was recently uncovered, and is heading to auction.

Based on the already rare 924 Carrera GT (of which only 406 were made), the GTR variant took Porsche’s exercise in insanity up to a whole new level. It was faster, sportier, and hella meaner.

The intercooler was relocated to the front, a roll cage was fitted, an adjustable suspension was there, too. But the piece de resistance was the hotted-up 2.0-liter engine that produced 375 horsepower, which propelled the car to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. Quite the quick car in 1981.

Porsche took the 924 GTR to the track in 1980, where it placed 6th, 12th, and 13th overall at Le Mans, and took home a class win in 1982. Naturally, like any factory race car, a few examples had to be homologated for the streets. That’s where this pristine example comes in.

A one owner, stunning example of fine German craftsmanship, the car in question only has 67 miles on the odometer. Even better, all 67 of those miles were on the track.

After a short-lived racing career, this 924 GTR hung up its helmet for life in a climate-controlled garage. Now it’s heading to auction as part of Coys’ 2016 Legende et Passion event this month. No price estimate given.
