Obscura Day 2016: Old Houses of Tbilisi

Explore the enchanting architecture of Tbilisi from the Tzarist times.

Join us on Obscura Day for a tour of urban architecture in Tbilisi starting from the end of the 19th through to the early 20th century. 

The tour will take you through the most significant buildings in "Upper Tiflis," a posh neighborhood with gorgeous European-style villas built by oil and tobacco businessmen, nobility and public figures from the Tsarist times. The four-hour walk will pass through the beautiful old districts on the right embankment of the river–Vera, Mtatsminda, and Sololaki–and will explore the stories of the architects behind the masterpieces, and the original homeowners that later had to flee the country with the arrival of the Bolsheviks.

The tour will take from three to four hours and will require much walking, frequently on uneven surfaces. Please wear comfortable footwear and bring a camera. Flashlights would be helpful to see better in some entrance halls.
