Pedestrian dies in Clearwater traffic crash

CLEARWATER, Fla. - One person has died in a fatal traffic crash at the intersection of Gulf To Bay Blvd. and Belcher Rd, officials said.

Clearwater police are on the scene.

The Clearwater Police Department received a call about the incident shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday.

Clearwater Public Safety says the pedestrian was pushing a wheelchair and not in a crosswalk when he was hit on Gulf-to-Bay. They are reminding everyone to always use crosswalks.

Authorities did not release the victim's name other than to say the victim appears to be a male. 

The westbound lanes of Gulf to Bay are currently closed while officials investigate the accident. 

Drivers set to travel west on Gulf to Bay this morning are encouraged to find alternate routes.
